Faraday Pants

Okay, this is nuts. fiber2fashion.com is reporting that Crocodile International is about to release pants with a metal-lined pocket to protect you from “dangerous cell-phone emissions.” From the sound of things, they’re building one pocket out of a cotton-poly-titanium-steel blend. Sounds uncomfortable and pointless–the general consensus is that phone radiation is harmless.

Their press release goes one better, though:

[The pants] will not also block the mobile phone signal as the fabric is designed to block only the harmful frequency and not the communication frequency.

Great. So the faraday cage pants aren’t actually a faraday cage. They’re just a magic “bad stuff” filter. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.

When it comes to microwaves next to my nutsack, general consensus doesn’t count. But then again, when it comes to my nutsack, can I really trust a magic filter? Good point….
