Seattle Fry's Ads, online. Sort of.

A friend just sent me a link to this week’s ads for Fry’s Electronics in Seattle. This has been a long-running irritation for both of us–unless we go out and buy a paper, we don’t know what Fry’s is selling this week. It seems ridiculous that they don’t post their sales online themselves; instead, this link above comes from one of the two major Seattle papers; they’re both hosted in nwsource.com.

While it’s nice to see their ads show up online, it’d be even nicer if they were actually usable–as it is, you get an unreadably small image of the ad; you can click to zoom, but the zoomed image only shows a single segment of the ad, usually one or two items. So, to read the whole ad, you’d have to load at least 100 distinct images. Nice work, guys.

Yeah, I’ve been using that for a while (though only in a pinch) and I have the same complaint. Fortunately, I can’t walk around Seattle for less than 30 minutes without seeing a lonely abandoned Fry’s ad laying around. Seriously, I never buy a paper yet always have the Fry’s ads, business and technology sections at benches or empty tables at Starbucks. That’s all I would buy a paper for anyhow–go figure.

On a link to the Fry’s internet website there are plenty of sales items. I clicked to purchase a battery pack, item #4307515 with price $7.99 good thru Aug 8, and it said “Print out this page and bring it to the store!”. I did and went to the the store but they would not honor the sale price. Employee, David Morando, said the website is not theirs and would not let me talk to his manager, saying that he would inform his manager, Mike Queenan, for me. Why would Fry’s allow this to happen? That is a waste of customers’ time!!!

Saw on the website a set of speakers that sounded like a good deal. Went to the store and got the same “web deal only” crap. Went home and ordered them. Cost $50 less including the shipping then it was in the store. Sheesh.

you know it is shit like this that pisses me off. the seattle pi and seattle times has all of us by the balls. if we want to view the ad we have to purchase a subscription to the shitty daily paper. this is just another way for them to sale papers. do they really think someone will purchase a script just for the fucking as? fuck no! i will just figure out something else for my frys ad even if i have to drive down to the fucking store to see what is on sale. fuck the pi and times!

You can get the online edition of Seattle Times or PI for 99 cents a week. Or you can do what I did. If you get the newspaper delivered you can sign up for the online at no extra charge. I got a friend who gets delivery to sign up. He gave me his name and password.
