SuperHappyDevHouse Vancouver

I can’t make it, but it looks like fun: SuperHappyDevHouse Vancouver this weekend.

Socialtext’ers are descending on Vancouver as part of their annual migration to meet, hack, and plan. They came up with the idea of bringing the Bay Area-based Super Happy Dev House to Vancouver.

Bryght is providing the venue and BBQ space at 1 Alexander Suite 400.

Hopefully I’ll be able to make it back up there for something this summer.

Barcamp Vancouver

Posted by Scott Laird Sat, 26 Aug 2006 07:29:52 GMT

I’m in Vancouver for Bar Camp this weekend. We started off this afternoon with a barbecue at Bryght’s new offices and then moved on to Workspace. It’s been a couple years since I was last in Vancouver, and I’m not sure why it’s taken me so long to make it back–considering how active Vancouver’s startup and open-source scene is, I really should drive up more frequently.

Anyway, if you’re at Barcamp and interested in Typo (or Rails, or Google, or whatever), then stop by and say hi.

Dinner at Chinoise

Posted by Scott Laird Tue, 26 Jul 2005 21:55:15 GMT

I’ll have to call this a personal first: I had dinner at Chinoise yesterday with a group of people that I’d never actually met in person before, all arranged at the last minute via blog trackbacks.

Besides finally meeting Boris, I got to meet Chris, Lee, Kris, Amanda, and Silas. I’d never been to Chinoise before, but I’ll be back soon–great food, wonderful presented. The conversation was enjoyably geeky; Boris and I double-teamed Lee and Chris on the “you need a Nokia N91” front while the other half of the table discussed photo management software and backup strategies. Here are a couple pictures from Boris’s Nokia 6630, uploaded directly to Flickr during dinner. I really need to get a better phone.
